Getting started
Testlie is a hosted service: we run everything, and you point your app's development, staging and CI settings at it. This page gets you from a new account to your first captured email in a few minutes.
Create an account and an inbox
- Create an account with your email address or a Microsoft account.
- Create a team. Inboxes, identity providers, API keys and webhooks belong to a team. You can invite people later from the Team page.
- Create an inbox with + Create inbox on the Inboxes page. Each inbox gets its own SMTP username and password.
- Send a message. Open the inbox. Until the first message arrives it shows ready-to-paste SMTP settings for your stack, with the inbox's real credentials, and a Send a test email button that drops a sample message in so you can explore the viewer straight away.
- Point your app at the inbox (see Sending email from your app) and trigger an email: a sign-up, a password reset, an invoice. It appears in the inbox within a second.
A getting-started checklist on the inbox page tracks the next steps: invite a teammate, create an API key for your tests, and set up a mock identity provider.
The quickest end-to-end check from a terminal, with the credentials from the inbox's SMTP settings tab:
swaks --server smtp.testlie.com:587 --auth-user <username> --auth-password '<password>' \ --from app@example.com --to someone@example.com --header "Subject: Hello" --body "It works"
What next
- Inboxes & projects: organise mail per app and environment.
- Testing in CI: assert on emails from your test suite.
- Webhooks: get notified when mail arrives.
- SMS, WhatsApp, push, voice and request bins: the other sandboxes.
